Our Legacy & Story
“Virtue Alone Ennobles” — Shaping the minds, values, and futures of young women in the Vidarbha region since 1854.
Before Nagpur had paved roads, SJC had classrooms.
On the 6th of April, 1854, three Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambery — Mother St. Joseph Boissat, Sr. Alphonse, and Sr. Ursula — completed an arduous 80-day journey by bullock cart from Vizagapatam to Kamptee, answering the call of Bishop Neyret. What they built here — a Day School, a Boarding House, and an Orphanage — became the first institution of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambery in all of India.
Today, 170 years later, that seed of faith and education has grown into one of Nagpur district's most respected schools, continuing to shape the minds, values, and futures of young women in the Vidarbha region.
